Classic Prince of Wales Feather Elbow Chair
The Classic Prince of Wales Feather Chair is named because of the carved motif of the three curled ostrich feathers.
The three curled ostrich feathers that form the traditional crest of the Prince of Wales were a favoured ornamental motif in the late 18th and early 19th centuries when their incorporation on pieces for furniture served as a kind of homage to the future King George IV.
This charming design is carved on the back of this superb dining chair. It is shown here with the exact nail head swag drape trim of the original chair, copied right down to precisely the same number of brass nails!
This particular chair is very similar to a design of 1787 in George Hepplewhite’s pattern book. “The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Guide“, published in London in 1794.
