Architectural models like these were made as souvenirs for travellers in Georgian, Regency and Victorian times, making the “Grand Tour” of the Classical world. They visited ancient sites, mostly in Italy and Greece, in Egypt and the Nile Delta. This one comes from the remains of a temple dedicated to the Emperor Vespasian, in the Forum in Rome.
