Historical note: “flow” blue is a style of white porcelain or earthenware that originated in the Regency era in England, sometime in the 1820s, among the Stoke potters of Staffordshire.
The name is derived from the blue glaze that blurred or “flowed” during the firing process. This sometimes had very attractive results, and has become highly collectable today.
