ELKINGTON MANTEL CLOCK
ANTIQUE ITEM: A “BANJO” or “BALLOON” CLOCK :
Although strictly speaking called a Mantel clock, it can also be described as a bracket clock, or tabletop clock.
The description of “banjo” or “balloon” refers to the shape of the mahogany case.
The makers are ELKINGTON.
The case is mahogany with pale stringing to the front edging, and it has a lovely patina.
It is on a wide, stepped base with 4 brass bun feet.
The clock opening has a brass bezel and the clock also retains its original knurled finial.
The circular metal cover lifts off to reveal the works, which are marked: MADE IN FRANCE
