The Sofa or Writing Table
Model: TA ST
Sofa tables became popular in the late 18th century, and were often placed in front of or behind a sofa, hence the name. They can, of course, be used as writing desks or dressing tables.
Classic Chairs’ Sofa or Writing Table is a beautiful example. It is finished on all sides, so can be placed centrally within a room. The sabre legs with recessed darts terminate in cast brass “sleeping” lions. The high-set stretcher bar has scrolled brackets at each end for strength.
This table has a secret drawer, so it ranks with the most detailed of 18th Century furniture.
A similar table is illustrated in “18th Century English Furniture, The Norman Adams Collection” pp 160 Christopher Claxton Stevens & Sarah Whittington.
