LT 084 Chinoiserie painted brass ormulu table lamp

This is an eye-catching lamp base, with many attractive features. Firstly, it is of an unusual narrow curving oval shape. Secondly, the top and the bottom are of crisply carved casting, of very high quality. It features a foliate design running up the sloping top to the lamp fitting. The leaves are echoed in the frieze around the stepped base.

And then there is the black japanned body, so beautifully painted on both sides with a Chinoiserie island landscape scene.

And lastly, the highly satisfying finish achieved through the soft satiny sheen to the body and the antiqued brass.
