BRONZE MYSTERY CLOCK
A GERMAN BRONZE and ORMOLU MYSTERY CLOCK by Erhardt Junghans, c 1900
A finely detailed bronze figure of a scantily clad woman who is holding aloft a clock. This is in a circular ormolu case with pendant foliage and bands, with an orb at the bottom.
The clock itself has an enamel face with Arabic numerals.
The 8 day movement clock balances on a steel knife point and swings from side to side when set in motion.
These clocks are known as “MYSTERY” clocks, as there is no apparent connection between the clock and the decorative support.
The very appealing bronze figure has the modeller’s initials inscribed on the base in cursive script (FIH?)
She stands on a turned wooden lacquered pedestal base.
